Apple has removed the pirated Kimi streaming app that was trending in the App Store

Apple has removed from the App Store the pirated streaming app Kimi, which was trending in the app store. The developers tried to disguise it as an eye test program.

After publication, Kimi rose to #8 on the App Store Trending and #46 on the overall list of free apps worldwide. If you look at Kimi’s page, it’s a vision self-test program. There is nothing interesting in it, but journalists began to notice strange feedback from users. They called the application a free analogue of Netflix and noted that the broadcast works in high quality and without freezes.

Immediately after installation, Kimi opens the main page with a list of currently popular movies and series. The application does not hide and does not even show the onboarding and demo mode, which could divert suspicion. Movies in the list can be filtered by user preferences and even downloaded for local viewing.

Kimi appeared on the App Store in September 2023, but journalists did not pay attention to it until February 2024. Media representatives sent inquiries to Apple’s press service. In response, the company removed Kimi from the App Store.
