Apple does not recommend drying the iPhone in raw rice
Apple has spoken categorically against drying the iPhone by placing the devices in uncooked rice. Often, gadget owners resort to this method of removing moisture when the devices fall into water.
“Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Otherwise, small particles of rice can damage your iPhone,” Apple writes in support documents. The company also recommended avoiding external heat sources such as hair dryers or compressed air to blow out the liquid.
In addition, Apple advises against inserting cotton buds and paper towels into the device’s charging ports. Instead, the corporation offers to tap the smartphone on the hand with the connector down. Experts recommend thinking of this procedure as pouring water out of the ear after bathing.
The iPhone should then be left in a well-ventilated area to dry the smartphone and wait 30 minutes before charging it. If the warning continues to show, you need to leave the phone for a while longer.
It may take up to 24 hours to dry completely. If the device is dry but not charging, you should unplug the cable and plug it in again.
For years, rice has been considered by some to help remove moisture from electronics more quickly. However, back in 2015, the Verge wrote that raw rice does not absorb moisture very well. The time when the gadget can dry calmly helps in the situation. According to the researchers, placing smartphones in rice can slow down the process of removing moisture, and also leads to dust and starch getting inside the device.
