A programmer was detained in the Tyumen region on suspicion of treason

According to the security forces, he was carrying out the tasks of a foreign organization against the security of the Russian Federation

A resident of the Tyumen region was suspected of treason, the FSB regional office reported. The man “offered his services in the field of programming” and “performed the tasks received from a foreign organization,” TARS reported the message of the special service. The name of this organization is not given.

A criminal case was initiated against him under Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (collaboration on a confidential basis with a foreign state, international or foreign organization). The maximum penalty is imprisonment for a term of up to eight years with a fine of up to one million rubles. The article appeared in the Criminal Code in July 2022. One of the first cases related to her became known in October of the same year, but the data in the case is classified.

“Employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia of the Tyumen region stopped the illegal activity of a Russian citizen related to the establishment and maintenance of cooperative relations on a confidential basis with a foreign organization, with the aim of facilitating activities deliberately directed against the security of the Russian Federation,” the press service reported. Information appeared in various mass media on September 19, 2024.
