a laptop from Lenovo with a flexible display. Design and possibilities
Laptop manufacturers are quite active in creating systems with flexible displays, despite the fact that the demand for such devices is lower than for phones. Today we will discuss a laptop from Lenovo with a diagonal of 16 inches. It has many functions, so it can be used by representatives of various professions. What kind of device is it and why does it have a flexible screen, we will consider below.
Design and features
It should be said right away that the laptop catches the eye – even more so, with such and such a screen. This, by the way, is OLED, the diagonal, as mentioned above, is 16 inches. 16.3 to be exact.
This is the second generation of folding laptops from Lenovo, and the design of the novelty has become somewhat better. The body is made of aluminum, so the outer part of the device is quite strong. There are also plastic parts that are made from recycled material.
Those who have already managed to test the device say that it creates a good impression at first glance – thanks to the design, as well as the functions (which we will talk about a little later). A big plus is that the frame of the screen has become much smaller, so that the useful area has increased.
Moreover, if the previous model only had two USB-C ports, here we have two Thunderbolt 4 and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. There is also a power button, volume rocker, microphone jack and speaker grilles, which are located on both sides of the case.
Thanks to the possibility of transformation from a laptop with two screens to an all-in-one PC, the device with an expanded display can be installed on the table with the keyboard next to it (it is included). But there is another option – to leave the form factor of the laptop, installing the keyboard on the second half of the device.
By the way, the weight of the laptop is small – only 1.3 kg, so you can take it with you on the road, it is not very heavy. In the folded state, the dimensions of the device are 176.2×276.2×17.4 mm, in the unfolded state – 345.7×276.2×8.6 mm. In general, the X1 Fold 16 is similar in size to the 17-inch HP Specter Foldable, which we already wrote about. Apparently, it was developed as a competitor to the latter.

It is worth noting that the device cannot be upgraded. The processor and RAM are unsoldered on the board. Of course, the SSD M.2 2242 can be replaced, but it is better to do it with some experience in disassembling devices.
The battery lasts for about 7.5 hours, which is generally not bad. You can understand why the laptop discharges so quickly, because it has one continuous screen.
Yes, the price is very high. Perhaps he will find his buyer, but there are doubts that such a device will be bought en masse. On the other hand, if manufacturers release new and new devices, they probably have an audience.
By the way, there are other configuration options. So, a model with a Core i7-1260U processor, 32 GB of LPDDR5-5200 and a 1 TB SSD will cost the user $3,899.
But with a Core i5-1230U, 16 GB of LPDDR5-5200 memory, a solid-state drive with a capacity of 256 GB and a Lenovo Precision Pen – “only” $2,500.
Keyboard and other features
The ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 is a versatile device that can be used in various modes, such as a laptop, tablet, desktop, and more. A regular keyboard is included, but if the user wishes, he can work with a touch one.
By the way, the accessory comes with a stand — it will come in handy if you work with the laptop as a monoblock. In order not to hurt your hands, the position of the accessory can be adjusted. The stand is equipped with a magnet and connects to the laptop. The central part of the device has a hinge system that allows you to adjust the tilt of the screen.
As for the keyboard, it is equipped with a built-in touchpad, TrackPoint and a fingerprint scanner. USB-C rechargeable battery accessory (wireless charging not supported). The keys have a backlight that can either be turned off or set to low or high brightness. You can adjust the brightness of the backlight (or turn it off) with Fn + space.
Some users claim that the keyboard is a little tight, so typing at maximum speed is not always possible. The touchpad is small and has tactile feedback. Of course, there is also TrackPoint – something that became a characteristic feature first of IBM, and then of Lenovo.
If that’s not enough input methods for you, there’s one more. Yes, the X1 Fold 16 also comes with the Lenovo Precision Pen stylus. It connects via Bluetooth and has 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The accessory is powered by one AAAA type battery (included in the kit), which provides the declared service life of the stylus in 400 days. It has three buttons (a switch on the side and one button at the top of the pen), each of which can be configured by the user as a shortcut. In order not to lose the stylus, it can be attached with a magnet to the side of the X1 Fold 16.
What is in the dry residue?
If it weren’t for the price, many would probably want to buy the device. After all, its form factor can be modified depending on needs. The device is quite universal, since it alone can immediately replace a wide range of other devices.
And the fact that TrackPoint and a stand for the keyboard are also included in the set, makes the device really convenient. Productivity, by the way, is also on top — the laptop is much more powerful than its predecessor.
As mentioned above, the X1 Fold 16 model clearly has room for the future. But, of course, I would like this device to become cheaper – in this case, it will probably be bought much more willingly.
